Memorial Museums as a Mechanism for Healing
Empathetic Explorations Program Proposal
A Mindfulness Model for the Art Museum Visitor Experience
Cases of trauma have been on the rise in the United States. What can museums do to help combat this epidemic? Memorial museums might have the answer.
In this research paper, I explore "Community as a Context for Healing" and the three components that are needed for a museum community to contribute to audience healing.
Informed by research and observation, I created a sample program for the Indiana State Museum and the traveling exhibit "XOXO: An Exhibit About Love & Forgiveness".
This program takes the participants through several ISM galleries and helps them relate to other cultures, using what they learned about empathy from the XOXO exhibit as a guide.

Utilizing the research from leading mindfulness expert Jon Kabat-Zinn, I propose a mindfulness model that art museums can use in their programming to enhance visitor's experience with art.
